Apply at Second Star Games More roles at Second Star Games
Second Star Games is creating Neverland: A Peter Pan Adventure, a family co-op game set in a handcrafted, painterly storybook world. Our team brings experience from the LEGO games franchise and a shared ambition to create adventures that families remember playing together.
We're looking for an experienced 3D Artist to help bring Neverland's environments to life. This is a hands-on role working directly in Unreal Engine 5, taking props and environments from concept through to finished art in the playable game.
What you'll do
- Create stylised props, modular assets and environment art that capture Neverland's painterly, handcrafted look.
- Take assets through modelling, UV mapping, texturing and material setup, then import, assemble and refine them in Unreal Engine 5.
- Build and dress environments, with a strong eye for composition, scale, colour and storytelling.
- Work with the Art Director and Concept Artists to translate the 2D vision into cohesive 3D environments.
- Collaborate with Lighting, VFX, Animation and Level Design so the art supports gameplay and player readability.
- Review your work in the running game, respond to feedback and work with technical colleagues to meet asset and performance budgets.
- A portfolio showing strong stylised, painterly or storybook 3D environment and prop work.
- Practical experience building and finishing environments in Unreal Engine 5.
- Confidence across the environment art pipeline, including modelling, UVs, texturing, materials and set dressing.
- Strong skills in a 3D package such as Maya, Blender or 3ds Max, alongside Substance Painter and Photoshop or equivalent tools.
- A strong eye for shape, colour, composition and texture detail, and the ability to carry a concept's character into the game.
- An understanding of real-time asset constraints and how to balance visual quality with performance.
- Clear communication, attention to detail and a collaborative approach to art direction and feedback.
- Shipped game experience, particularly with stylised environments.
- Painterly texturing, modular environment workflows or experience improving an art pipeline.
- Tuesday to Thursday in our Warrington studio.
- Monday and Friday at your discretion.
- Flexible working within core hours, 10:00-16:00.
- 25 days holiday plus UK bank holidays.
- 4% company pension scheme.
- EMI share options for eligible employees.
- High-spec hardware and software provided.
