This policy explains what information gamesJobs (gamesjobs.co.uk) collects when you use the site, why, and the choices you have. gamesJobs is run by Jack, an individual based in the UK, who is the data controller for the purposes of the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018. You can contact him about anything in this policy at hello@gamesjobs.co.uk.
The short version
- You don’t need an account, and the site never asks for your name, CV or contact details.
- When you apply for a job, you do so on the studio’s own careers site. Nothing you submit there passes through gamesJobs.
- Analytics cookies are only set if you accept them. You can change your mind at any time with the “Manage cookies” link in the footer.
- The site is funded by advertising served by Google AdSense. Visitors in the UK, EEA and Switzerland are asked through Google’s consent message whether ads may be personalised, and nothing is personalised unless you agree.
- We never sell your data.
Information we collect
Usage analytics (only with your consent)
With your consent, we use Google Analytics 4 to understand how the site is used: which pages are visited, roughly where visitors are in the world, what device and browser they use, and how they arrived. This helps decide which studios, features and guides to work on. Google Analytics sets cookies (such as _ga) to tell visits apart. Until you choose “Accept” in the cookie banner, Google Consent Mode keeps analytics storage switched off and no analytics cookies are set.
Advertising
We use Google AdSense to show adverts on some pages. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites. Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the internet.
If you visit from the UK, the European Economic Area or Switzerland, a consent message provided by Google (a Google-certified consent management platform that follows the IAB Transparency and Consent Framework) asks for your choices before any advertising cookies are used for personalisation. The message lists Google and the other advertising partners involved and the purposes they use data for, and lets you accept, reject or choose purpose by purpose. Your choice is stored in a cookie so you aren’t asked on every page.
If you don’t consent, Google may still show non-personalised ads, which are based on the page you are viewing rather than on your browsing history. These use cookies or similar technologies only where needed for purposes such as frequency capping, aggregated reporting and fraud prevention. Google’s consent message lets you change your advertising choices at any time using the privacy and cookie settings link it adds to the page. You can also:
- opt out of personalised advertising at Google Ads Settings;
- read how Google uses information from sites that use its services at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites;
- opt out of some third-party vendors’ use of cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info.
Cookies at a glance
| Cookie or storage | Set by | Purpose | When |
|---|---|---|---|
_ga, _ga_* | Google Analytics | Counting visits and understanding how the site is used | Only after you accept analytics |
Advertising cookies (for example __gads, __gpi, IDE) | Google AdSense and its partners | Showing ads, limiting how often you see the same ad, measuring ads and preventing fraud; personalising ads only with your consent | On pages that show ads, according to your consent choices |
Consent cookies (for example FCCDCF, FCNEC) | Google’s consent message | Remembering your advertising consent choices | When you make a choice in the consent message |
ukgj:consent, ukgj:saved, ukgj:hidden (local storage) | gamesJobs | Remembering your analytics choice and any roles you saved or hid | When you make a choice or use those features |
Cookie names set by Google can change over time. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, although the site may then ask for your consent choices again.
Information stored in your browser
The site stores a few small values in your browser’s local storage. They never leave your device and we can’t read them:
ukgj:consentremembers your cookie choice so you aren’t asked on every visit.ukgj:savedandukgj:hiddenremember roles you have saved or hidden on the job board, if you use those features.
Clearing your browser’s site data removes them.
Server logs
Like almost every website, our hosting provider records standard web server logs: your IP address, the page requested, the time, and your browser’s user-agent string. These are used to keep the site secure and working, and are kept for a limited period by the host.
If you email us
If you contact us, we keep your email and any details you include so we can reply and deal with your request. We don’t add you to any mailing list and don’t share your message with anyone.
Job listings and studios
The jobs on gamesJobs are collected from studios’ public careers pages and job feeds. Listings contain information the studio has chosen to publish (job title, location, description and a link to apply). We don’t collect personal data about candidates or about studio staff. If a listing names a hiring contact and you’d like it removed, email us and we’ll take it down.
Lawful basis
- Consent for analytics cookies and personalised advertising. You can withdraw analytics consent at any time with “Manage cookies” in the footer, and advertising consent through the privacy and cookie settings link in Google’s consent message.
- Legitimate interests for server logs (security and reliability), for non-personalised advertising that funds the site, and for replying to messages you send us.
Who receives data
Google (as the provider of Google Analytics and Google AdSense) and our web hosting provider. Google may process data outside the UK; it does so under the safeguards described in Google’s privacy policy. We never sell personal data.
How long data is kept
Google Analytics data is kept for the retention period set in the Analytics account and is then deleted automatically. Emails are kept for as long as needed to deal with your message. Server logs are rotated by the host.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to access the personal data held about you, to have it corrected or erased, to object to or restrict its processing, and to data portability. To exercise any of these, email hello@gamesjobs.co.uk. If you’re unhappy with how your data has been handled, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
Children
gamesJobs is a job board aimed at people of working age and isn’t directed at children under 13.
