About these numbers

Every morning gamesJobs reads the job feeds of the 200-plus UK game studios it tracks and records how many roles are open, broken down by country and discipline. The chart above is that daily count over time, so you can see how hiring is moving across the industry rather than relying on anecdote: whether openings are rising or falling, which disciplines are in demand, and how Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland compare with England.

A few things to bear in mind when reading it. The count is of live roles on a given day, not new roles, so a studio that leaves a vacancy open for three months counts every day it’s up. Studios are added to the tracker over time, which nudges the total upward independently of hiring. And speculative “send us your CV” entries and roles outside the UK are filtered out, so the numbers reflect genuine UK vacancies only.

For context on what the roles involve and how to land one, see the career guides; for pay, see what UK studios advertise. To browse the roles behind the numbers, try browse by region or discipline.
