Principal Creature Designer

We are a crowdfunded company and have a dedicated and enthusiastic community of backers who are helping us create the “Best Damn Space Sim Ever”. We want to build the best we can deliver and we believe wholeheartedly in the value of exceptional diverse talent.

As a Principal Creatures Designer based in Manchester, you will work closely with the Lead, Directors and with other designers to bring life to Star Citizen’s universe through believable, dynamic, and challenging creatures. You will support and guide the pipeline management from concept to release, collaborating with Animation, Design, and Engineering teams to craft immersive and cohesive creature experiences.   
  

Founded in 2012, Cloud Imperium Games creates cutting-edge videogames that defy expectations. We’re developing Star Citizen, a record-breaking multiplayer space sim, and Squadron 42, a cinematic single-player adventure. Join us as we break boundaries and make videogame history.  

What does a Principal Creature Designer at CIG do?  

• Work with the Lead on the design and implementation of creature AI behaviours and its pipeline. 

• Design, document and own major features, combat mechanics and encounter systems. 

• Support the Creature team, including other designers, animators, and engineers to deliver cohesive creature experiences.  

• Script and prototype creature features, ensuring smooth technical integration.  

• Contribute to refining creature pipelines, workflows, and best practices.  

• Participate in design reviews, offering creative solutions and feedback.  

What do we expect from our Principal Creature Designer?  

• Professional experience in Creature, Enemy, Encounter, or Systems Design.  

• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively across disciplines, with a track record of leading cross-functional efforts. 

• Shipped or maintained open-world, multiplayer, or live-ops titles.  

• Strong experience with visual or text based scripting language. 

• Provable understanding of creature design in open-world sandbox gameplay.  

• Strong drive for building dynamic creatures that enhance immersion.
