Working in games in Derby
Derby’s best-known games studio is Bulkhead, the developer behind Battalion 1944 and other shooter and strategy titles. The city has a long engineering and manufacturing background, and the University of Derby runs games programming, art and design courses.
Derby is also close to Nottingham, home to Dambuster Studios, and to the wider Midlands cluster that stretches to Birmingham and Leamington Spa. Rolls-Royce and other engineering employers in the city mean there is also a pool of experienced software engineers who sometimes move across into games programming.
